Lanomax

Lanomax® is a lanosterol-based eye drop used to help dissolve cataracts in pets, such as dogs and cats. It is considered a non-surgical treatment option, primarily intended for incipient to mature-stage cataracts.

• Main Ingredient: The active ingredient is lanosterol, a naturally occurring compound that research has shown can help break down the protein clumps that form cataracts.

• Delivery System: The product utilizes an innovative drug delivery system called ThruDelivery® (a proprietary nanotechnology system) designed to help the lanosterol molecules penetrate the lens of the eye effectively.

• Usage: It is generally recommended for use on various animals and can be used on pets with pre-existing conditions like diabetes or glaucoma. It is typically applied once or twice daily, or as directed by a veterinarian.

• Storage: Unopened vials can be stored at room temperature away from sunlight. Opened vials must be refrigerated (not frozen) and used within one month. 

Effectiveness and Professional Opinion

• Efficacy: Lanomax may be effective if the cataracts are in their early or immature stages. Some research has indicated that lanosterol can significantly reduce the size of cataracts and improve lens transparency in animals.

• Limitations: Its effectiveness is not guaranteed for every case, especially fully developed or mature cataracts. Many veterinarians and researchers still state that surgery remains the most effective treatment for fully developed cataracts, and some authorities, like the U.S. FDA, have issued warnings regarding specific therapeutic claims for similar products.
